By Provided News on November 12, 2017 - 2:06am

South Suburban Family Shelter is looking for individuals, families or businesses interested in participating in its annual Adopt-A-Family Holiday Program for victims of domestic violence and their children during the holiday season.

The Adopt-A-Family program benefits those experiencing financial hardship as a result of their family circumstances.

“They would likely have nothing for the holidays without the help of generous donors,” said Vicki Meilach, community outreach coordinator. Sponsoring a family’s needs, or making a monetary or gift card donations are welcome, she said.

Donors purchase and wrap gifts for their adopted family. Food is also needed including turkeys, chickens and non-perishable items for holiday meals. Contact vmeilach@ssfs1.org for specific food items needed.

Donations can be sent to Adopt-A-Family, c/o South Suburban Family Shelter, P.O. Box 937, Homewood, IL  60430.

South Suburban Family Shelter is a not-for-profit agency providing comprehensive services for families who experience domestic violence, including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, counseling for adult victims and their children, abuser intervention, court and medical advocacy, and a prevention program.

All victim services are provided free of charge and all programs are available in English and Spanish.
