PERMITS REQUIRED

 

A permit must be obtained prior to the start of construction, alteration, repairs, or improvements of any part of a building or structure. To obtain a permit for residential or commercial work, a permit application must be completed. More information on the permit application process is on Page 24. Phone 503-8000 for details.

 

 

BUILDING COMMISSIONER

 

Permits are reviewed and issued by the Building Commissioner, who can be reached at the Village Hall, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

A CONTRACTOR’S LICENSE is required for all contractors and subcontractors doing work within the Village. To obtain a license, call 503-8000.

 

 

 

 

BUILDING PERMITS

Before proceeding with any work to construct, alter, repair or improve any part of a building or structure, a permit must be obtained.  To obtain a permit for residential or commercial work, a permit application must be completed, a work order/proposal must be attached and signed by the contractor and resident, blueprints, drawings, plats of surveys, and list of materials being used must be submitted with the permit.  Permit fees are based on type of work being done and whether residential or commercial. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF A PERMIT IS REQUIRED, PLEASE CONTACT THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT.

Permits are reviewed and issued by the Building Commissioner.  The Building Commissioner can be seen at the Village Hall, 20701 Governors Highway during regular business hours, 8:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday.

CONTRACTOR’S LICENSE

RoofersA Contractor’s License is required by the Village for all contractors and sub-contractors doing work within the Village.   The fee for a Contractor’s License is $50.00.  Contractors must complete a Contractor’s License Application, submits their Certificate of Liability Insurance and Workers Compensation Insurance (listing the Village as additional insured and the Village Engineer), and if a plumber or roofer, a copy of their state license is required.  License is valid for one year from date of issue.

POINT OF SALE INSPECTION

A Point of Sale Inspection is required by the Village if you are planning on selling your home.  An inspection must be scheduled with the Village Hall.  The first inspection is $50.00 and $25.00 for re-inspections.  Once the home has passed inspections a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued.  This document is needed for closing purposes.  A final water meter reading is needed prior to vacating the property.  Please call the office to set up an appointment.  A partial list of items that are checked during the inspection is available upon request from the Village.

NEW RESIDENTS

Welcome to the Village of Olympia Fields.  We ask that all new residents come to Village Hall and complete the necessary paperwork to establish your water service.  At that time, you will receive a Village Handbook and a Recycle Bin.  The Village Handbook contains information on alarm system registration, obtaining a dog license and choosing a scavenger service.

INSPECTIONS

Inspections are required by the Village for any permit work being done.  A 24-hour notice is requested prior to an inspection being scheduled through Village Hall. A list of inspections required is available upon request.  Inspections are made Monday thru Friday except on Holidays.
